And then there was this one time when we caught a bass that was eating a frog…

We were doing an electrofishing survey at Lake Iowa this week when we found a bullfrog in the mouth of this 14-inch largemouth bass. A largemouth bass, living up to its name, will try to eat as large of prey as it can, so frog imitation surface baits – or even live frogs – are excellent for summer fishing. Fish in open pockets and along weed edges where bass like to hang out. Largemouth bass can hardly resist a leopard frog swimming by (just remember though, that crayfish frogs are endangered in Iowa, so don’t use those for bait).
